How Xeomin and Jeuveau Are Different from Botox and Dysport

  • Post category:Botox / Dysport

Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeaveau® are like The Beatles of wrinkle-smoothing injections. They are the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure in the US for wrinkle reduction. While everybody calls them “Botox,” these four FDA-approved injectables are actually different from each other.

In the previous article, we compared Botox® and Dysport®. Today we are going to look at Xeomin® and the newest injectable in the market, Jeaveau®, and compare them with Botox® and Dysport®. By the end of this article, you should be able to decide which anti-wrinkle injection fits your needs and preferences.

About Xeomin®

Xeomin was approved by the FDA in 2011 for the treatment of frown lines. If you’re considering Xeomin® (Incobotolinum toxin A) as your anti-wrinkle injection, you’re looking into something uniquely purified. Just like other BoNT-A injections, Xeomin® reduces wrinkles and frown lines by preventing muscles from contracting. So the same muscle relaxation mechanism applies to Xeomin®.

What makes Xeomin® stand apart from other injectables is it has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A. Injectables like Botox® and Dysport® are formulated with protective proteins such as human albumin. But some patients may develop antibodies against them over time, lessening the effectiveness of the treatment.

With Xeomin®, there is a lesser risk of developing antibodies against it than other anti-aging injectables because it’s more purified. Xeomin® is also the first injectable that does not need to be refrigerated before use. This may offer more comfort when injected because it’s stored at room temperature.

Xeomin® may be the better option for patients who have shown signs of resistance against Botox® and Dysport®. Results from Xeomin®  injections become noticeable about a week after receiving the treatment and can last up to three to six months. In terms of cost, onset, and duration of results, Xeomin® is just about the same as Botox® and Dysport®.

About Jeaveau®

Jeaveau® is known as the #NEWTOX. It’s the newest anti-wrinkle injectable in the market, only approved by the FDA in 2019. Like Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, Jeaveau® is a wrinkle relaxer.  It’s injected into the muscles to treat moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows.

Structurally, Jeaveau® is very similar to Botox®. Both have a molecular weight of 900 kDa, contain human albumin and sodium chloride, and offer similar results. It can be used to treat horizontal forehead lines, vertical frown lines, and crow’s feet for men and women to achieve smoother younger-looking skin.

In terms of efficacy and safety profiles, Jeaveau® is the same as Botox®. What makes Jeaveau® different is it’s exclusively for cosmetic use only. Patients who receive Jeaveau® will see results in three to five days that will last for about three to six months.

Comparing the Anti-wrinkle Injectable Quartet

So we have Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeaveau® as your wrinkle-smoothing options. All these anti-wrinkle injectables offer similar benefits but they do have some subtle differences that are worth considering.

Dysport may be more ideal for wider areas like forehead lines because of how easily it spreads. Botox may work better for targeted areas like the elevens between your eyebrows and wrinkly eyes. For patients who aren’t getting noticeable results with Botox® and Dysport®, they may find more success with Xeomin®. Meanwhile, Jeaveau® is more suitable for those who want to try something new.

So, which one is the best for you? The right treatment for you will depend on the target areas, when you want to see the results, and how long you want the results to last. Choosing a plastic surgeon who knows what’s best for you is the key to achieving your desired results.
